Welcome to Ottawa's Social Purchasing Portal

The Social Purchasing Portal (SPP) is an innovative partnership of business, government, and community working together on social and economic issues to create healthy communities. It facilitates corporate purchasers to target their everyday business purchasing to suppliers who have agreed to consider creating job opportunities for individuals who require further support to enter the workforce. Ottawa businesses and social organizations have developed this Internet portal to facilitate supply chains that create social value.

The Social Purchasing Portal (SPP) partnership is based upon a shared commitment to poverty elimination through employment creation and to addressing inner-city economic growth targeted procurement decisions.

By promoting the use of existing purchasing of everyday business goods and services, such as office supplies, catering, and couriers, local economic and social value is created without adding cost or loss of purchasing value. Business and social values are blended in each transaction to help build a better community!

Some benefits of the Social Purchasing Portal (SPP):

  • Enables businesses to buy products and services on the basis of price, quality and service, while at the same time inject social value into their buying decisions.
  • Utilizes a business model to contribute to building a healthy community.
  • Is founded on the principle of building relationships and partnerships by integrating a community socio-economic development vision and business objectives.
